However, they are only applicable to self-hosted blogs and web sites using the WordPress.&nbsp; They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: One of the primary advantages of using the <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">self-hosted version of WordPress from WordPress.org<\/a> is the ability to upload and use plugins on your WordPress site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-free-vs-premium-wordpress-plugins\">Free vs Premium WordPress Plugins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are tons, literally tons, of WordPress plugins available for free download from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WordPress.org Plugin Directory<\/a>.&nbsp;There are also <em>premium<\/em> or paid WordPress plugins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why would you want to pay for a plugin? Well, there are several reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While there are thousands of plugins available for free from the plugin directory, paid plugins usually offer a full time support staff and developers that work on maintaining the security and compatibility of plugins with the latest version of WordPress as well as with other themes and plugins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most of the time, plugins play nicely with the core of WordPress and with other plugins, but sometimes a plugin\u2019s code will get in the way of another plugin, causing compatibility issues. With a paid plugin, it\u2019s just nice to know you have support staff that can help you out if anything goes wrong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You might be asking what types of things plugins can do. Well, if you can imagine it, there\u2019s probably a plugin for that.
